As a recent university grad who wants to go out and see the world, there are few people that appreciate discount hotel rooms more than me. If it were not for discount hotel rooms, many of the trips could not have happened due to financial constraints. Hotels that offer discount hotel rooms have a very specific niche market of people like me that want to travel but are strapped for cash. As well, a key attribute of the market for discount hotel rooms is that these travelers are generally very flexible. The basis of offering discount hotel rooms is that they are extra rooms that have not been booked already. Since the additional cost associated with actually filling these rooms are insignificant, it is in the best interest of the hotel to offer them as discount hotel rooms in order to increase their revenue.
Most low budget travelers are more concerned with finding an adventure and less concerned with their specific destination, discount hotel rooms are the perfect way to get away. Being able to get discount hotel rooms at the last minute allow me to get a vacation for a minimal cost. As well, since most budget conscious travelers are adventure seekers by nature, the specific location of the hotel is not of grave importance since we will be able to find an adventure no matter where we are. However, there are a lot of travelers that would not want to use discount hotel rooms. People that want to be in a specific hotel, or even a specific area take the risk that the hotel of their choice was fully booked, and thus does not offer any discount hotel rooms. If you do not have that sort of flexibility, then discount hotel rooms are not ideally suited to your needs.
